Alexandra Escobar

Team Coordinator, Operations and People

Alex is the Team Coordinator for the Operations and People Team at Democracy Fund, an independent foundation working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. As Team Coordinator, she sits at the hub of the Operations and People Team, connecting and working with every part of Democracy Fund to encourage open communication and collaboration. Alex is responsible for designing and managing internal team processes that not only ensure our systems run smoothly and efficiently but also focus on the overall employee and candidate experiences.

Before joining Democracy Fund, Alex was a Program Instructor at the Close Up Foundation. Using Washington, D.C. as an experiential classroom, she worked with young people from across the United States, aiming to inform, inspire, and empower them to exercise their rights and accept their responsibilities as citizens in a democracy.

Alex developed a deep appreciation for democracy while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guizhou, China from 2012 to 2013. Since then, she has worked in local government for a councilwoman in Long Beach, California, and volunteered on Beto O’Rourke’s U.S. Senate campaign in Houston, Texas. Alex also worked at Peace Corps Headquarters where she co-led legislative efforts on the Sam Farr and Nick Castle Peace Corps Reform Act, which was signed into law in 2018.

Outside of Democracy Fund, Alex serves on the Board Of Directors of Hostelling International USA, a nonprofit organization founded on an enduring belief in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and cultures for a more tolerant world. She is also a certified yoga teacher.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Loyola Marymount University and is an alumna of the Latino Leadership Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
