Maritsa Bailey is the Accounting Manager at Democracy Fund, an independent foundation working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. As a member of the Operations team, she maintains the integrity of the monthly and annual general ledger closing processes, supports the annual audit, and oversees the accounts payables function for Democracy Fund and Democracy Fund Voice, ensuring that staff, grantees and vendors have the resources to execute successfully.
Before coming to Democracy Fund, Maritsa was the Accounting Manager at Opiant Pharmaceuticals, a company that performs research and development for new medicines to combat addictions and drug overdose, where she collaborated with the finance team and executive management to establish and implement accounting policies, procedures, and systems. In addition, she managed all general ledger activity for both domestic and foreign entities, and provided support for the annual audit. Before that, she worked at ExEd, a non-profit committed to supporting high-quality charter schools so children have access to a great education, as a Senior Accounting Associate. There she processed semi-monthly payrolls, performed monthly and annual financial statement closes, assisted in the annual audits, and completed and filed financial reports to various local public chartering agencies for multiple client charter schools.
Maritsa graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting and from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a master’s degree in accounting.
