Danica Lee is a Grants Associate at Democracy Fund, an independent foundation working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. With the grants management team, she works to ensure all grants at Democracy Fund are structured with compliance and equity in mind. She works closely with other staff to advise on best grantmaking practices, reimagining systems, and innovate creative grantmaking strategies.
Danica has a background in community and youth organizing. With an emphasis on racial equity and popular education, she has worked across North Carolina and nationally to advance leadership development and civic participation. Working with nonprofit organizations through the 2020 election prompted her to learn more about equitable grantmaking and what role philanthropy and grantmakers play in a rapidly changing public sector. Prior to joining Democracy Fund, she was a Program Associate at Arabella Advisors where she utilized her nonprofit management and C3/C4 compliance skillset to manage a diverse portfolio of grantmaking fiscal projects across the country. Danica currently lives in North Carolina, where she serves as a board member and volunteer for local community organizations empowering communities of color and leadership development for young people across the state.
Danica graduated with a dual degree in Political Anthropology and Conservation Biology from Appalachian State University. In their free time, they enjoy cooking and eating all spicy foods.
