José Morales, Jr. is the Associate Director, Special Projects at Democracy Fund, an independent foundation working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. On the Elections & Voting team, José works to create a fair and accessible election system, support voting rights, and coordinate with Democracy Fund’s programs, other foundations, and key stakeholders in the elections field.
José brings over a decade of political and advocacy experience to Democracy Fund. Before becoming Associate Director, he worked for multiple democracy champions and causes including Attorney General Eric Holder’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee, Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign, and Leader Stacey Abrams’ gubernatorial run. Additional experience includes the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Fair Fight Action, and The Hub Project. He sits on the board of Everybody Votes Campaign.
José is a second-generation Nuyorican, raised in both the Bronx and Hudson Valley. He graduated from American University where he studied as a Frederick Douglass Scholar. He also studied as a Public Policy and International Affairs Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. When he’s not at work, José is burning through his To Read list, trying to visit all 50 states, or creating the perfect road trip playlist.
